It is the third and final installment in the original Modern Warfare saga, a direct sequel to 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the eighth Call of Duty installment overall. Modern Warfare II connects with the new Call of Duty®: Warzone TM 2.0 experience, and with it, the evolution in Battle Royale with a brand-new play space and sandbox mode. NOW READ: MW2 players are demanding refunds after learning of new 2023 CoD titleĪccording to an article by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Activision’s goal for the new CoD game will be to make it a “standalone, full-price release and also an extension of Modern Warfare 2.” Apparently, the upcoming title will be “carrying over maps and modes from last year’s shooter,” but that this isn’t set in stone yet since there’s still plenty of time before its Q4 release. However, official reports have now surfaced stating that the upcoming title will not be Modern Warfare 3 and will instead be a continuation of the current MW2 entry. The new Call of Duty 2023 title, which was recently revealed as a standalone release, was initially thought by many to be a continuation of the Modern Warfare series.
